A resolution was adopted in memory of the late E. B. Grantham,75, Third Ward alderman, who died suddenly last Thursdayafternoon. Alderman Grantham was commended for his competentand loyal service to the city. At the request of Grantham'scompanion Third Ward Alderman, Rufus LeMaster, the city hallflag is to be flown at Half-staff for 30 days.. AldermanGrantham's chair at the council table will remain vacant untilhis successor is selected at the regular city election nextApril.

1 NOTE Sylvester was also known as Sam by his family and friends. Whenhe was 4 years old, his family moved to Kansas, then a coupleyears later to Hale, MO. Sam left home at the age of 14 andtraveled to Fairdale, IA arriving in Emerado, ND July 8, 1902.
Sam worked for Dan Ryson in the Blacksmith Shop, then purchasedthe building. He built a 6 room building where he had abarbershop. He bought the drug store from George Netcher in1908. The new store was built in 1916, later destroyed by firein 1960. He had a drug department, barbershop, confectionary,telephone central and groceries and other merchandise. Sam lost6 buildings in the 1928 fire, including a barn and barbershop,2 garages, chicken house adn ice house. The 1930's were hardyears and Sam took to farming. He did commercial trucking andhad a 1,000 gallon tank which he used to deliver water to thesurrounding area. He also had a farm in Rye Township, GrandForks County.

Z. E. Grantham
Services were held at Fertile, MN, for Zeno E. Grantham, 68, whoworked in Emerado, Meckinock, and Grand Forks barbershopsduring 45 years in the two-state area.
Mr. Grantham re-married after the death of his first wife in afire that destroyed his millinery, Caf‚, and barbershopbuilding at Fertile more than 15 years ago.
His second wife survives with a son, Ernest, Fertile; fourbrothers, E. B. Grantham, Granite City, IL; B. C. of PacificJunction, IA; D. L. of Riverside, CA; and F. J. of Los Angeles,and a grandson in Fertile.
He was born at Colony, Kansas, Dec. 16, 1882.
