Text:   10. WILLIAM2 FANCHER (John1), born in Stamford, Conn., 13 Nov. 1739, died in Poundridge, N. Y., 23 Aug. 1820. He marrid, in New Canaan, Conn., 2 Jan, 1766, SARAH SMITH, born in Poundridge, 15 Oct. 1744 and died there 9 Feb. 1823. (Ezra Lockwood's book states William's wife was Sally Hanford of New Canaan and one of her grandsons was named Hanford Fancher.She might have been Sally (Hanford) Smith , a widow, when she married William Fancher.)
William Fancher was the (1780-1781) and foruth (1788-1801) supervisor of the town of Poundridge. He served as judge of the court of common pleas of Westchester County and as justice of peace in Poundrdge fo many years, and was known as Judge Fancher.
William Fancher served as second lieutenant of the Minute Men 19 Oct. 1775 and was made captain in March 1777, in the Second Middle Regiment. He wa of weak constitution which kept him from entering into active service. After the war he served as lieutenant in Cane's Fourth Regiment of Westchester County Militia and as first lieutenant in Thomas' Regiment of New York Militia. He was an Associated Exempt becau7se of holding political office.
Mr. Fancher took a leading part in the establishment of the Presbyterian Church in Poundridge, was made an elder in 1788 and was one of the first trustees when the church was incorporated 28 April 1788.
