ANTHONY JOHNSON STRATTON, a MORMON CLUBBER and SHOOTER and 2nd Lt. in the Iron County Militia; (Son of Calvin Stratton and Gabrilla Johnson, both supposedly of Pottawattamie county, Iowa. Born: 1 1. Jan, 1824, Bedford County,Tenn. Came to Utah 1849, believed to have come in Captain Smoot eompany.
In September 1857, Stratton was a 2 nd Lt. in one of the Cedar City platoons. According to John D. Lee , Stratton arrived at Mountain Meadows and attended the military council on Thursday evening, September 10.
Married Martha Jane Layne April 3, 1845, in Hancock county. Ill (daughter of David Layne and Lucinda Biby—•
probably of Kentucky), who was born July 26, 1827 Their children Emeline, died, Martha Jane, died, Gabrilla, m William Wesley Willis, Jr , Mary, died, Rozilpha, Anthony Wayne, died, Lucinda, died, Calvin Layne, William Ellis, James Marion, Artemisia Family home Salt Lake City, Utah. Genealogy

In 1858 BRIGHAM YOUNG received a presidential pardon for his part in the atrocities at Mountain Meadows from President Buchanan.
